Nestled in the highest edges of the Central Appenini, the legendary village of Capracotta is a precious gem of Molise. The woods and the vast meadows embrace this Italian treasure, away from hustle and bustle and where every single thing is dictated by nature. The narrow alleys and the stone houses of the village, are the former shelters of the ancient transhumance, of the artistans and the shepherds who pioneered time-honored traditions and customs that are jealously safeguarded.
Arrival of participants in Capracotta. The village, situated at 1421 meters above the sea level is well known for its abundant snowfalls that attract winter sports passionates and curious people who enjoy Capracotta in wintertime. In summer, the ski center of Parato Gentile turns into a luxuriant valley, ideal place for hiking and outdoor picnics. The fist stop of the day will be a family run farm that produces its own yogurts and highquality milk, main ingredient of local dairy products. The owner will guide the participants to the craft laboratories and to the cattlesheds to closely observes cows and above all, to understand the strict relationship beteween their wellbeing and the high quality of raw milk produced by animals reared on grasslands. We will enjoy a dairy products tasting session and we will discover the secrets of such genuine and typical flavors. At midday we will have lunch in a local restaurant, where the cook chooses personally and carefully the ingredients, including the handpicked herbs and he will bring to our table traditional and regional delicacies. We will taste the “pezzata”, an antique recipe tracing back when pastors used to practice transhumance between Molise and Tavoliere delle Puglie. In the afternoon a guided tour through the streets of Capracotta will immerse the guests in a picturesque and emotional atmosphere, retracing the history of the many emigrants to the United States and their memories. It will be possible to visit the Museo of Civiltà Contadina e dei Vecchi Mestieri (Museum of rural culture and anticient crafts) as well as the little craftmen’s workshops.
